Remove hidden information from a PDF

A PDF often carries more than the pages you see: author names and software details in its metadata, embedded JavaScript that runs when the file opens, attached files, page thumbnails, and private data left behind by the program that made it. DMI's sanitize tool removes these in one pass and tells you exactly what it found. You can also choose to delete comments, flatten form fields so they can no longer be edited, and drop layer settings so no hidden layer stays concealed. Everything runs inside your browser, so the document is never uploaded. It is a quick privacy check before you email a contract, publish a report, or share a file with someone outside your organisation.

How it works

  1. Upload the PDF you want to clean.
  2. Tick the kinds of hidden information to remove.
  3. Click Remove hidden info and download the cleaned PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Is the PDF sanitize tool free?

Yes, removing hidden information with DMI is completely free, with no signup, no watermark, and no limit on how many documents you clean.

Are my files private and safe?

Yes. Cleaning happens entirely in your browser, so the PDF is never uploaded to a server. We log usage metadata, including your IP address, tool name, filename, and file size, for up to 12 months to help prevent abuse, but never the file content.

Does it change how my pages look?

No. The default options only remove information that is not part of the visible page. Removing comments or flattening form fields does change the page, which is why those options are off until you tick them.
